I know that getting family photos done can be extremely stressful, but don't worry I'm here to help! let me show you a few simple tricks that will take the stress out of a family photography session.
1. KNOW WHAT TO WEAR:
Know what everyone is going to wear ahead of time. (And by ahead of time I mean at least 2 weeks in advance) Get your shopping done and out of the way as soon as humanly possible. This act alone will take away most of the family-photo stress. If you need help with this just ask. It's literally my 2nd favorite thing to do. I LOVE styling families for their shoots! Also, I have a Fall Style Guide with tons of helpful shopping and styling tips right here!
2. BRING TREATS FOR THE KIDS:
You are going to want a stash of goodies to bribe the kiddos with, so bring their favorite
snack or candy! I know this sounds awful, but bribes work! They just do!! Just save the messy treats for last!
However, If I am your go-to photog then you know I've already got this covered! ;)
3.PICK THE RIGHT TIME OF YEAR:
I mean, let's face it who wants to be outside taking pictures in heat that will melt your face off??! Not this girl!! I love ya, but mama needs her AC! You can always get around this by scheduling an in-home lifestyle shoot, but if the great outdoors is what you're looking for then just pick a day mid-fall or late spring. (And you really can't beat a natural fall or spring background!) That being said, it doesn't mean you have to write off winter and summer photos altogether. It just takes a little creativity and good time management to make these work at the "stress free" level. (Which is what I'm here for!)
4.BRING SOMETHING FUN:
This is probably my favorite! Bring a new toy or game that the kids have never seen before. Oh the joy on a child's face when they get to do something new and fun! I love this because it allows me to capture real moments of joy and excitement! Nothing makes me happier than being able to photograph children and families naturally interacting with each other and enjoying one another's company!
5. WALK AWAY:
Let's face it, sometimes the kids just aren't having it, and that's OK. Don't worry about trying to force a smile or make them sit still. Sometimes the best thing to do is walk away and give the kids some one-on-one time with the photographer. (They usually have a few tricks up their sleeves.)
There you have it!!! With these basic tips (and the right photographer) you are well on your way to a stress-free family photo session!!
If you found these tips helpful please let me know, I would love to hear from you.
Also, feel free to share with a mom you think would love this! :)
